Seyir jurnaline göre mir’at-ı zafer fırkateyninin 1850 yılında portsmouth seyahati ve personelinin ölüm sebebi

Bahriye tarihimiz açısından büyük önem taşıtan gemilerin seyir jurnalleri bize sadece yapılan seyahatler hakkında değil aynı zamanda o devir Osmanlı bahriyesinde uygulanan teşrifat kaideleri, uluslar arası hukuka uyma gayretleri, personelin durumu, salgın hastalıklar ve diğer ülke bahriyeleri ile mukayese imkânı tanıyan birçok bilgilerde sunmaktadır. 1850 yılında İngiltere'nin Porsmouth liman şehrine Mir'at-ı Zafer fırkateyninin yaptığı seyahatin anlatıldığı jurnal'in bizim için bu hususlardan ayrı bir önemi daha vardır. Porsmouth'ta iken ölen 23 deniz erimizin anısına burada 1993 yılında Türk Deniz Şehitliği açılmış ve bu elim hadisenin böylece gelecek nesillere aktarılması sağlanmıştır. Ancak buraya dikilen kitabede deniz erlerinin ölümü ile ilgili verilen bilgiler herhangi bir araştırma yapılmadan salgın hastalık olarak belirtilmektedir. Ne var ki bu seyahate ait seyir jurnali incelendiğinde mevsim şartları yani yaşanan şiddetli kıştan dolayı deniz erlerimizin öldüğü ifade edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada seyir jurnalinden yola çıkarak bu seyahatte yaşananların bir değerlendirmesi yapıldıktan sonra, deniz erlerinin ölüm nedeni ortaya konulmaya çalışılacaktır.

The logbooks of the ships which are very important for our naval history give information not only about the journeys, but also about the rules of obedience in Ottoman Navy at the time, attemps to comply with international codes, the condition of the staff, epidemic diseases and also information that enables us to make a comporision with the navies of other countries. The logbook in which the journal of Mirror of Victory to Portsmouth a part city in England in 1850 is described has another importance apart from these points. In hanour of our 23 naval soldiers who died at Portsmouth, A cemetery for Turkish naval soldiers was established here in 1993 and it is enabled that this touchy event would be able to be passed down on coming generations. However, in the epitaph put up here, the data about the reason for the death of naval soldiers was stated as epidemic disease without any investigation on the subject. Nevertheless, when the logbook about this journey is examined, it is stated that our soldiers died due to seasonal conditions, in other words because of heavy winter conditions. In this work, after an evaluation of the experiences in this logbook, the reason for the death of naval soldiers will be tried to be explained.
