Reflection of the social values in ancient greek art

It is well known the part that Ancient Greek civilization played in the formation of today’s modern thought. It’s art is certainly the one part which attracts attention mostly. It’s essential to know the values which this art was born into and the circumstances which caused it’s development to be able to understand and interprete it. These are the elements peculiar to Ancient Greek society; A suitable geographical location and the beauty thought which was born within this circumstance, humanism ideal along with the image of human shaped (anthropomorphic) gods, Homer and the heroism ideal that took shape in his legends and the identity comprehension. Throughout the ages, it has been thought that art was a matter of inspiration but certainly it has a intellectual dimension too and this is determined by the society that the art is born into. The explanations on Ancient Greek art will gain a more realistic characteristic if the values of the Greek society are known well.

Eski Yunan uygarlığının, günümüz modern düşüncesinin oluşumunda oynadığı rol iyi bilinir. Sanatı ise; şüphesiz bu kültürün en çok ilgi çeken yönüdür. Eski Yunan sanatını anlamak ve yorumlayabilmek için, bu sanatın içinde doğduğu değerleri ve gelişmesine neden olan şartları iyi bilmek gerekir. Bunlar ise; Eski Yunan toplumunun kendine özgü nitelikleridir: Uygun bir coğrafi konum ve bu şartlarda doğan güzellik düşüncesi, hümanizm ideali ve beraberinde getirdiği insan biçimli (antropomorfik) tanrılar görüntüsü, Homeros ve onun efsanelerinde biçimlenen kahramanlık ülküsü ile kimlik ya da aidiyet bilinci. Çağlar boyunca sanatın bir ilham işi olduğu düşünülmüştür ancak elbette sanatın düşünsel bir boyutu da vardır ve bu boyut, o sanatın içinde doğduğu toplum tarafından belirlenir. Eski Yunan sanatına özgü değerlendirmeler de o toplumun değerlerinin tanınmasıyla daha gerçekçi bir karaktere bürünecekti
