The aim of this study is to conribute to Turkey’s mathematics education system and instruction program which was renewed -yet still has some application hardships- by providing reflections from the mathematics education applications in an American elementary school. The study was done in the International American School (IAS) located in Belgium. First, an observation study in three classess (4th, 5th and 6th grade) was performed for ten weeks. Then, based on the results of the observation, a student interview form was developed so as to find out the differences between Turkish and American education applications. With this form interviews were done with IAS’s 25 Turkish students whose parents had been assigned from Turkey to Belgium temporarily. The differences in the American education applications obtained from observations and student responses to the interview questions were analyzed according to qualitative analysis methodology. The analysis results were presented under the titles of “Instruction Programme, Learning Environment, Techniques and Methods, Teacher Approaches, Assessment and Evaluation” differences. Consequently suggestions were made that will contribute to Turkey’s general education system and mathematics education system.
