Sosyal bilgiler dersinde öğrenci ve öğretmen görüşlerine göre coğrafya konularinin öğretimi

Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde coğrafya konularının öğretimi öğrencilerin mekansal becerilerini geliştirmekte, ekonomik ve sosyal olayların, problemlerin mekansal özelliklerini ve boyutunu analiz etmelerini sağlamakta ve çevresel konular hakkında bilgilenmelerini sağlamaktadır. Öğrenci coğrafya eğitimi ile yaşadığı çevrenin temel unsurlarını tanıyabilir, coğrafyanın içeriğinde yer alan ilişkileri sorgulayabilir; bu işleyişin sürekliliğini ve değişimini kavrayabilir; mekansal değerlere sahip çıkar, ekosistemin işleyişini koruyabilme sorumluluğunu kazanabilir. Araştırmanın amacını, ortaokul 6. ve 7.sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler ders programında yer alan coğrafya konularının öğretiminin öğretmen ve öğrenci görüşlerine göre değerlendirilmesi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada karma araştırma modeli uygulanmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen veriler 2012-2013 öğretim yılında Bolu merkez ortaokullarında görevli 28 öğretmene uygulanan 23 sorudan oluşan anket ve 5 yarı yapılandırılmış soru ve 306 öğrenciye uygulanan 17 sorudan oluşan anket ve 8 yarı yapılandırılmış soru yardımıyla elde edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına bakıldığında, öğrencilerin coğrafya konularına ilgi duydukları, konuları öğrenmede güçlük yaşamadıkları, coğrafya dersinde uygulanması gereken yöntemlerin ve tekniklerin çoğunlukla uygulandığı ancak gezi ve gözlem yöntemine yeterince verilmediği görülmüştür.

Teaching of geography topics in social studies course develops students’ spatial ability, provides to analyze the spatial characteristics and the aspect of the economic and social events, problems, and to get information about environmental issues. The student can recognize the main elements of the environment where he lives, and examines the content of the relations of geography; comprehends continuity and change in functioning; protects the spatial values; gains the responsibility to preserve the functioning of the ecosystem. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the teaching of geography topics existing in 6th and 7th grade social lesson curriculum according to opinion of the teachers and the students. Mixed research method is applied. The data in the research gained from the questionnaire includes 23 questions and conducted for 28 teachers in the secondary schools in Bolu Center which also includes the 5 semi-structured questions. Furthermore, another questionnaire is conducted for 306 students and includes 8 semi-structured questions. According to results of the study, these conclusions were observed that students interest the geography topics, they don’t have difficulty about learning the topics, method and technique should be applied in geography lesson is applied mostly; however, not given importance enough to the travel and observation technique.
