Sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerinin belirlenmesi

Bu araştırmada 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışması deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırma 2012-2013 eğitim-öğretim yılı güz döneminde Eskişehir’de bulunan iki ortaokulda yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya 113 sekizinci sınıf öğrencisi katılmıştır. Veriler Lederman ve Ko (2004) tarafından geliştirilen VNOS- E (Views of Nature of Science Elementary Level) anketi ile toplanmıştır. Ayrıca her okuldan 14 öğrenciyle VNOS-E anketi kullanılarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler “Betimsel Analiz” kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. VNOS-E anketinden elde edilen sonuçlar incelendiğinde öğrencilerin çoğunluğunun bilimsel bilgi mantıksal, matematiksel ve deneysel çıkarımlar içerir ve bilimsel bilgi özneldir bilimin doğası temalarında yetersiz bakış açısına sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları doğrultusunda 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerini geliştirilmesine katkı sağlayacağı düşünülen önerilere yer verilmiştir.

Purpose of this study is to find out the opinions of 8th grade students about the nature of science. Case study patterns, which is one of the qualitative research patterns, has been used in the study. The study has been performed in two secondary schools that were located at Eskisehir, during the fall semester of 2012-2013 academic years. 113 8th grade students have participated to the survey. Data has been gathered using VNOS-E (Views of Nature of Science Elementary Level) questionnaire developed by Lederman and Ko (2004). In addition, semi structured interviews which were designed according to VNOS-E questionnaire, have been conducted with 28 students, 14 from each school. Data obtained from the interviews were evaluated using “Descriptive Analysis”. Based on the evaluation of the findings obtained from VNOS-E questionnaire, the perspective of the majority of the students was found to be insufficient about the following themes related with the nature of the science: “scientific knowledge provides logical, mathematical and experimental arguments” and “scientific knowledge is subjective”. At the end, there are some recommendations which would contribute to the development of 8th grade students’ views about the nature of science, derived from the results of the research.
