Eğitimin toplumsal temelleri

Eğitim, toplumsal bir süreçtir. Eğitimin temel işlevi toplumsal yaşamın ürünü olan kültürü yeni kuşaklara aktarmaktır. Öyle ise, eğitim hem kökeni, hem de işlevi bakımından toplumsal bir olgudur. Eğitimin içeriğinin toplumdan topluma farklılık ve çeşitlilik göstermesi, her toplumun kendi coğrafyasında ürettiği sosyal, siyasal ve ekonomik değerlerinin yani kültürünün farklılığından ileri gelmektedir. Eğitim, toplumsal bir kurum ve toplumda gerçekleşen bir süreç olduğuna göre, eğitimin toplumsal temellerini inceleyen bilim dalı, sosyolojinin bir alt dalı olan Eğitim Sosyolojisidir. Başka bir anlatımla, Eğitim Sosyolojisi, eğitim ile toplum ve toplumun diğer kurumları arasındaki işlevsel ilişkileri inceler.
