Türk sigortacilik sektöründe karlilik ve yoğunlaşma ilişkisi

Son yıllarda özellikle Avrupa Birliği’ne uyum çabaları kapsamında diğer sektörlerde olduğu gibi Türk sigortacılık sektöründe de rekabetin arttırılması gerekliliği önemli bir konu haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, 2002-2004 döneminde sektörde elemanter alanda faaliyet gösteren 25 sigorta şirketine ait verilerle “yapı-davranış-performans” yaklaşımı çerçevesinde yapılan analize göre, sektörde yoğunlaşma ile karlılık arasında güçlü ve doğrusal bir ilişkinin varlığı bulunmuştur. Kısaca belirtmek gerekirse, bu dönemde Türk sigortacılık sektörüne eksik rekabetçi bir yapının hakim olduğu söylenebilir.

In recent years, as in the other sectors of the economy in the context of the harmony with the European Union, the need for increasing the level of competition in the Turkish insurance sector has become an important issue. In this study, the results obtained from an analysis of the data related to the 25 insurance companies, functioning in the elementary branch over the period of 2002-2004, indicates that there exists a strong-linear relationship between concentration and profitability in the sector. Briefly, it can be argued that the Turkish insurance sector shows less competitive market structure in this period.
