Ilköğretim 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin rasyonel sayılar konusundaki hazır bulunuşlukları

Matematiğin soyut, zor bir ders olduğu düşüncesi toplumda çoğu kişi tarafından savunulan bir bakış açısıdır. Bu durum beraberinde matematiğe karşı ön yargıyı ve başarısızlığı ortaya çıkarmaktadır. İlköğretim birinci sınıftan başlayarak hemen her dönem işlenen kesirler konusu ve 7. sınıf müfredatında yer alan rasyonel sayılar konusu için de aynı durum söz konusudur. Bilindiği gibi rasyonel sayılar konusunun öğrenilebilmesi için öğrencilerin önceki yıllarda işlenen kesirler konusundaki öğrenme düzeyleri önem taşımaktadır. Kesirler konusu, rasyonel sayılar konusunun yanı sıra matematik dersindeki birçok konunun da temelinde yer alan ve iyi öğrenilmesi gereken bir konudur. Daha önce yapılmış olan birçok çalışmanın sonucunda da kesirler konusunun iyi öğrenilememesinden dolayı öğrencilerin çoğu konuyu öğrenirken güçlük çektikleri görülmüştür. Bu bağlamda bu çalışmanın amacı ilköğretim 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin kesirler konusundaki öğrenme düzeylerini, dolayısıyla rasyonel sayılar konusundaki hazır bulunuşluk düzeylerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmanın örneklemini Konya ilindeki iki adet şehir merkezi ve bir adet ilçe ilköğretim okulundan toplam 185 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, öğrencilerin ilköğretim birinci kademeden beri defalarca tekrarlanan kesirler konusundaki kazanımları hâlâ tam olarak elde edemedikleri tespit edilmiştir.

Most of the people claim that mathematical subjects are abstract and difficult. This claim is true for the topic of fractions as well. Teaching of fractions starts from the early elementary years and continue with the rational numbers in the seventh grade mathematics curriculum in Turkey. This claim brings the bias and failure for the students in all levels. It is known that in order for students to learn rational numbers, their prior knowledge about fractions is very important. The sub-learning domain of fractions takes part as a basic subject besides rational numbers in many subject of mathematics and it should be learned deeply. Many researches also show that students have difficulties in many subjects of mathematics since fractions could not learn deeply. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out the students' attainment levels for the topic of fractions which is very important to be ready to learn the topic of rational numbers for the 7th grade students. The sample of the study consists of 185 students from two different elementary schools. One of the schools is from the city centre and the other from the rural part of Konya. A specially prepared achievement test has been used to collect necessary data. The test contained questions about all objectives of the fractions for the sixth grade curriculum. The findings show that the seventh grade elementary school students still could not satisfactorily acquire the objectives for the fractions.
