Writing is a technique which records a language. Writing is a strategy to express ideas. Thoughts are put into words, and words into writing, thus they are inscribed in history. Then, writing ceases to be a mere graphical sign and becomes a discourse which obeys language skills and is restricted by linguistic possibilities. It also becomes an action of a thinker, a journalist, a novelist, an artist. The agent of an action is responsible for his/her action. The space where a person is reflects his/her spiritual realm. Interior and outer space, cemeteries and cities, houses, streets and alleys, and architecture are all manifested signs of a person, a worldview, and a civilisation. Descriptions and analysis of spaces are important since they expose and reveal the soul. There is also a close relationship between the writing and the space. There is always a setting which an author selects as the space of the writing. There are writers who prefer indoor space as well as those who favor outdoors. Some writers can produce their work wherever they are; whatever space they are in. J. Derrida and R. Barthes, who handle writing as their main arguments, stand out as the leading figures who outperform others in thinking over writing and text, and in uttering words on them. The two writers regard writing and language as an interpretation effort; they hardly own a topic to speculate on other than writing and language. G.Flaubert, A.Camus, J.Derrida, and R.Barthes are monks of writing. It is fair to presume that these writers think over nothing but writing. In the present article, we will assume R.Barthes and J.Derrida, who are authors of independent writings and books on writing, as a starting point, and deal with the quality and function of writing, birth of writing and its spaces.
