Bilimin ne oldugu dün oldugu gibi bugün de bir çok bilim adamı, felsefeci ve egitimci tarafından tartısılmaktadır. Son yıllardaki genel konsensus ise bilimin insan oglu tarafından evreni açıklamaya çalısan bir aktivite oldugu yönündedir. Öbür tarafdan ögrencilerin bilime karsı olan tutumları izlenen ögretim yöntemleri ve programları sonucunda negatif olma egilimi göstermektedir. Bu durumdan kurtulmanın yolu ise ögrencilerin bilimin dogasını ve amacını kavramalarıdır. Ayrıca bilimin bilgiler toplulugu oldugu anlayısını yıkıp, yerine bilimin çevremizde her yer de oldugu ve çalıstıgını göstermek egitimin temel amaçlarından birisi olmalıdır. Buna ilaveten bilgi toplumlarında yasayabilmek için de bireylerin bilimsel olarak okur yazar olmaları gerektiklerine inandırılmalıdırlar. Bütün bunlar bilime karsı pozitif tutum tasıyan toplumlar olusturmaya yardımcı olacaktır.
Since the past, what is science (or the nature of science) has been discussed by many scientists, philosophers and educators. Lastly, the general consensus about the definition of science is that science is a human enterprise whose purpose is to explore the universe. On the other hand, the attitudes of students toward science tend to be negative mostly by the means of instruction methods and curriculum. One solution for this situation is that students need to understand the nature and purpose of science. Also, general understanding and meaning of science by many of us as a bunch of knowledge has to be changed and in stead of this understanding, one purpose of teaching science is to show that science is every where and a part of our daily life. Additionally, in order to live and compete in the today’s information society, students should be convinced that they have to be scientifically literate people. Finally, all of these explained above help to increase positive attitudes of students toward science.
