Bir eğitim öncüsü: darüşşafaka

Bu çalışmada Osmanlı Devleti‟nin son dönemlerinde açılmış olan Darüşşafaka Mektebi araştırılmıştır. Özel İslam Mekteplerinden biri olan bu okulun kuruluş amaçları, ders programları, idareci ve öğretmen kadrosu, okullarda uygulanan müeyyideler ile ilgili bilgilere dönemin kaynakları taranarak ulaşılmıştır. Çalışmamız nitel bir araştırma olup doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmış, arşiv belgeleri, maârif ve devlet salnameleri, okul ders cetvelleri ve talimatnameleri, konu ile yazılmış bilimsel eserler taranarak hazırlanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Osmanlı Devleti‟nin son dönemlerinde kurulmuş olan Darüşşafaka Mektebi‟nin kuruluşu, faaliyetleri ve Türk eğitim tarihindeki yeri ve önemini belirlemektir. Fakir, yetim ve öksüz Müslüman çocukların eğitimi amacıyla açılan bu mektep kısa sürede büyük bir gelişme kaydetmiş, yetiştirmiş olduğu öğrenciler ve eğitimdeki kalitesiyle Müslüman Türkler arasında ilgi uyandırmıştır. Eğitimdeki bu fedakâr gayesiyle de diğer Müslüman girişimcilere önderlik etmiştir. Bugün hâlâ eğitim hayatına devam eden Darüşşafaka eğitim kurumları imkânı olmayan çocukları geleceğe kazandırma görevini devam ettirmektedir.

This study explores the Darüşşafaka School, which was opened during the final years of the Ottoman State. The information on the foundation objectives, curricula, administrative and teaching staff, and disciplinary rules used in this school, which is one of the first private Islamic schools, were retrieved from sources that belonged to the period after a thorough research. This is a qualitative research study that utilized document analysis methodology and an indepth scan of archival documents, educational and state yearbooks, school class charts and instructions, as well as scholarly literature hitherto produced on the subject. It intends to investigate the foundation and activities of the school and highlight the place and significance of the Darüşşafaka school in the history of Turkish education. Founded principally to educate impoverished and orphan young Muslims, this school made huge progress in a very short time, luring the interest of the Muslim Turkish population to its graduates and the level of quality it introduced to local educational system. With such a selfless goal, it has provided a good example leading the way for other Muslim entrepreneurs. Still in operation today as a member of educational force, Darüşşafaka retains its first and foremost mission of conveying children with restricted or no access to any educational facilities due to poverty into the future.
